Re: New interactive tab/staff tool: DVIICE - now with multiple keys/instruments

I learned several things, and I finally got both versions into a single page, with a button to toggle between them.

Over the next few days, I'll start testing and troubleshooting the menus (a.k.a. the stuff I originally planned on doing tongue sticking out smiley ).

As far as I can tell, it's working properly. Over the next few days, I'll upload it to a temporary directory on my server for practical testing, and if it checks out, I'll upload it "for real." Then I'll update the help page and post a link so the "tab tool" link can be updated to the latest version.

And then I'll need you guys to rip it apart and tell me what's broken and what features you were expecting to see. grinning smiley

I think I got it.

http://tigerhawkt3.com/dviice/v3/dviice.html

It starts in compatibility mode. If you want the Chrome/Safari functionality, click the button.

I had it starting in Chrome/Safari mode accidentally. It'll start in compatibility mode now.

Any questions, comments, or suggestions?

I think the Tab Tool can be updated with the new link (http://tigerhawkt3.com/dviice/v3/dviice.html).

Works fine.
If ya want a suggestion:
Add a natural minor harp tuning. Those are popular.

Here's a reference, if you want it:

Let's see if I understand this tuning correctly.

A C major harp gets five flatted reeds (according to [www.leeoskar.com]), and is then called a G minor harp, getting its name from the 2 draw (G in this case) instead of the usual 1 blow (C in this case).

To display this harp layout on the Angelfire site you linked, in a way that matches that Lee Oskar page, I would select the following:

Position: 2nd (Cross)
Harp Tuning: Natural Minor (Lee Oskar (TM) Labeling)
Display Options: Normal, None
Layout: Blows on Top

What keys should I have of this tuning? Should I just do the ones listed in this Lee Oskar PDF (http://www.leeoskar.com/documentation/NaturalMinor-Notation-Chart.pdf)? That would be G minor at the very highest, going down 11 additional semitones for a lowest key of Ab minor.

Is this all correct?

Once I make one accurate "instrument" for a tuning, I'll be able to automatically generate all the other keys for it with a new program I wrote today, so that'll be nice. I tested it with the Powerbender tuning, so I'll have additional Powerbender keys up soon. Once I get the natural minor structure confirmed, I'll create the tuning, generate the other keys, and put it into the DVIICE.

Two things:

1. I noticed that the DVIICE's default menu for Richter tunings was alphabetical, putting Ab after A, G right before High G, and so on. If you loaded a different menu and then went back to Richter, it switched to a more useful "by pitch" order. It now uses that "by pitch" order in the initial menu as well.

2. I've created the minor tuning based on the Angelfire link, and generated the additional 11 keys (based on what's listed at [www.leeoskar.com]). The layout is very slightly different from a standard diatonic Richter, according to the Angelfire link. Everything is ready to upload for testing - I just need confirmation that my understanding of this tuning is correct.

Yeah, that's right. The labeling on Lee Oskar natural minor harps is confusing, but I guess if anyone owns one, they know to pick up the harp that's the same key as the song to play second position.

Natural minors are up.

Whoever knows about those harps: please check it out and see if it's accurate. Anyone: please check for bugs and/or weirdness. I don't see any more, but there are probably a few hanging around.

Thanks!

Are the natural minor harps correct?

Anything not working?

Any suggestions for new features or instruments?

Hi all. I just wanted to pop in for a moment to say that I updated the DVIICE to add keyboard support. Use ZXCASD to select a pair of octaves, and "6" through "/" to access natural notes and sharps for the selected octaves. It's an update to V3, so the same links will work fine (if you've visited it recently, you might need to bypass the cache with Ctrl-F5 to grab the latest version).
