Nick changed it to "Tab Tool."

That's doable. I added "© 2013" before my name at the bottom right.

The original version is kind of deprecated. In the new version (V2), users can choose from a variety of instruments in addition to the defaults. It also has links to a help file and the alternate version (the compatibility version has a link to the Chrome/Safari version and vice versa).

V2 for Chrome/Safari: (http://www.tigerhawkt3.com/dviice/dviicechromesafari-v2.html)
V2 for any browser: (http://www.tigerhawkt3.com/dviice/dviicecompatibility-v2.html)

I have recently found out that alternative guitar tunings are not uncommon. I'm thinking of adding a way to allow DVIICE users to select a tuning for each string.

It just keeps getting better! There's no telling what it might evolve into!

I think I know what has to go where. How far should each string be tunable? One octave above and below the standard tuning? Two octaves?

I was originally going to have each string tunable to an exact note within one or two octaves of the standard tuning, but now I'm planning on just providing a number of preset tunings, starting with the more popular ones. I can always add more on request, if anyone really wants a particular tuning.

I've got the buttons for open tunings set up. Now I have to create the instruments. Once I have that functioning properly, I can add more. Here's the list of tunings I have planned:

Initial release:
  • Open A
  • Open B
  • Open C
  • Open D
  • Open E
  • Open F
  • Open G

Later additions:
  • Minor third
  • Major third
  • All fourths
  • Aug fourths
  • Mandoguitar
  • Minor sixth
  • Major sixth
  • CGCFGC (because I want that one)
  • Drop D
  • Maybe more I guess

There are hundreds of possible tunings. Instead of having them all immediately available, I'm going to encourage users to suggest tunings they'd like to see.

Have you shown DVIICE to guitar forums? Keyboard forums?

I looked around, but wasn't sure where to go. =\

There's a guitar equipped with motorized tuning nuts, that can automatically tune the guitar. It has presets for 12 common tunings... so I'll go with those.

As a bonus, the product manual (http://www.americanmusical.com/ItemFiles/Manual/Gibson_MinETune_Manual.pdf if anyone's interested) lists the precise tuning for each string for each of its presets - in scientific notation, even. smiling smiley

The instruments are done for the Chrome/Safari version. I'll finish the compatibility versions tomorrow, then I can upload/test.

After that's all set, I'm considering putting in an alternate harmonica tuning or two.

Well, it's sort of mostly there.

The Chrome/Safari version is up.

The compatibility version is mostly up, because I had to make a couple changes after testing, and the changes simply aren't going through. My web host says that they're seeing the latest version of everything, but I'm not seeing it on my computer after completely clearing the cache, not seeing it on another computer in the house, and I'm not even seeing the newest versions on my mom's iPhone with WiFi turned off, so it doesn't seem like an ISP issue, either.

In a nutshell, the 6th (lowest) string on the Open E tuning on the compatibility version may or may not have working audio. Those of us for whom it doesn't work (such as myself) may eventually see it suddenly work for no reason. Maybe. If it doesn't work for anyone, on an ongoing basis, I'll have to Look Into It.

Also, I'm not going to be doing alternate harmonica tunings (such as Powerbender), because that would mean not just a new instrument file, but - since those tunings have different layouts for bends/overblows/etc. - new images and buttons and things I'm not too keen on diving into, especially for something I doubt anyone would use.

Well, it took two hours for no reason that I can fathom, but it's finally showing the corrected file.

So that's working.

Choosing a new instrument now automatically loads the necessary image, with no extra clicks.

A Powerbender-tuned diatonic in C can now be displayed in Instrument 1. I might add other Powerbender keys.

Choosing the Powerbender blocks out part of the little instructional paragraph. I've already fixed it, but it'll probably take a couple hours to go through.

I think I've almost learned enough about JS and jQuery to make a new version of the DVIICE, with a small number of drop down menus instead of a mountain of buttons.

I think I have the logic figured out. Now I just need to write menus and stuff.

Looks like I didn't have it quite as figured out as I thought I did. Also, it may not have been wise to attempt to unify the compatibility and Chrome/Safari versions into one page while also implementing menus. So, it'll take a little longer while I figure out what I have to fix.
