Im a newbie here so be kind.

I got my Swift Blues Harp in C for Christmas and Im hooked. So much to learn!

I was looking at some Zep tabs to get started on and found this site. This is where I need help - the tabs tell me which hole to blow/draw but they dont give you any feel for how to play it. This may be a but of a school boy error and you are all having a good chortle but - any advice?

Hi Sabre,

as a fellow newbie I can relate to your problem and the simplest solution of course is to pick songs that you already know the tune to which makes the rhythm easier to pick up (no easier to play tho)

If there is a song you dont know then there is always Youtube or a site like LastFM ( [www.last.fm] ) where you can usually hear a song to get the timing.

Of course as I said start with ones you know and the frustration is a lot less

Harmonica tabs do not tell you about the length of notes or rests or anything like that. They just tell you which hole to blow or draw and whether to bend it. You have to know the song to play it. Tabs don't compare to sheet music. The best thing is sheet music with tabs under it, but you don't find that often.

Zep for a newbie?! Have fun! smiling smiley

start out with "Oh Suzanna" [www.harptabs.com], and play it really slow till you get the hang of it. i've never met anyone who didn't know this one.
it's the song i use for practicing speed.
