I am not familar with the hobby of quail care. Is keeping a quail similar to keeping a regular bird? What makes a quail such a good pet?

The bigger quail needs flights or rabbit hutch.
Chinese quail(called button quail the USA) can stay in cages or tanks.
Just the same as keeping a regular bird.
Alot of people keep them with other birds,as they live on the ground they
can eat all the seed the other birds spill out.

I really don't know much about quails. Can the quails fly and just prefer the ground over trees?

They prefer to stay on the ground and hide in long grass or a bush..
But when they do fly,They go for it!
Most of the time when they get into the air they fly until they can fly no more.
They can become very tame in a cage and will eat and site on your hand.

I raised Bobwhite and Pharaoh quails for a few years. Here in Florida, you purchase a game farm license/permit from the Game Commision and you are legal to raise them.

We built our own brooders and cages, our first incubator was homemade then I bought 2 others.

Our first Bobwhite, aptly named "Bob" was a family pet. He was the only hatchling in his batch of eggs. He had got out of the brooder while I was at work, and my wife could not find him. She tried to whistle for him, and he not only answered her, he hopped out to her.

Anyone wanting to raise them just check the internet- lots of info...

You dont need a game license to keep quail here.

Thanks for this quail site, I have had it in mind to keep these as a hobby and have gained some info. Part of which is that these birds are not long lived maybe 12 to 18 months. Are they prolific egg layers to compensate

as were on this site, do quails take to Harmonica wails?

Gene, I didn't realise it was that old! It was just top of the list as "Quails" and I thought this was a new form of Harmonica playing eager to find out about it I turned it up to find it was just for the birds.

Anyway I still may get some.
