In The Ghetto

                  In The Ghetto

Verse 1:

4 -4 5-4 4
As the snow flies,

 4 4 5 6 6 6 -6 6 6 6
on a cold and grey Chicago mornin',

6 6 -5 -5 -5-5 -4 -4 5 -4 4 4 5
a poor little baby child is born in the ghetto.

 -8 7 7 78 R 4 -4
(in the | ghetto.)

 4 -4 5 -4 4
And his mama cries,

   4 4 5 6 6 6 -6 6 6
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need,

 6 6 6 -5 -5-5-5 5 -4 -4 5
it's an-other hungry mouth to feed,

-4 4 4 5 -8 7 7 78
in the ghetto. (in the ghetto.)

 5 5 6 5 6 6 6
People, don't you understand

 6 6 6 6 -6 6 5 4
the child needs a helping hand,

 -6 -6 -6 -6 -6 -6 -6 6 6 -5 5
he'll grow to be an angry young man some day.

  5 5 6 5 6 6 6
Take a look at you and me;

 6 -6 7 -8 7 7 -6 6
are we too blind to see?

-6 -6 -6 -6 6 6 6
Do we simply turn our heads

 6 -5 -5 5 4 -4
and look the other way?

  4 -4 5 -4 4
Well, the world turns,

 4 4 5 6 6 6 6 6 6 -6 6 6
and a hungry little boy with a runny nose

  6 -5 -5 -5 -5 5 -4 -4 5
plays in the street as the cold wind blows

-4 4 4 5 -8 7 7 78
in the ghetto,(in the ghetto)

 4 -4 5 -4 4
And his hunger burns.

 4 4 5 6 6 6 -6 6 6
So he starts to roam the streets at night,

 6 6 6 -5 -5 -5
and he learns how to steal

 -5 -5 5 -4 -4 5
and he learns how to fight

 -4 4 4 5 -8 7 7 78
in the ghetto.(in the ghetto)

Verse 2:

  6 6 6 6 6 6 -6 6
Then one night in desperation,

6 -6 -6 -6 6 5
the young man breaks a-way;

6 -6 -6 -6
he buys a gun,

-6 6 6 6
he steals a car,

 -5 -5 -5 -5 5 -4 -4 5
tries to run but he don't get far,

 5 -5 5-4 4
and his mama cries.

 4 4 5 6 6 6 6 -6 6 6 6
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man

  6 6 -5 -5 -5
face down in the street

-5 5 5 -4 -4 5
with a gun in his hand

 5 -4 4 5 -8 7 7 78
in the ghetto,(in the ghetto)

 4 4 -4 5 -4 4 -8 7 7 78
And as her young man dies. (in the ghetto)

 4 4 5 6 6 6 -6 6 6 6
On a cold and grey Chicago mornin',

 6 6 -5 -5 -5 -5-5 5 -4 5
an-other little baby child is born

-4 4 4 5 -8 7 7 78
in the ghetto. (in the ghetto)

 4 -4 5-4 4 -8 7 7 78
and his mama cries. (in the ghetto)
