7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7
I peeked in, to say good night,
 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
When I heard my child in prayer.
   7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7 6
"Send, dear God, some scar-let rib-bons,
 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
Scar-let rib-bons, for my hair"
 7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7 6
All the stores, were closed and shut-tered,
-6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
All the streets were dark and bare,
 7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7 6
In our town, no scar-let rib-bons,
 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
Not one rib-bon, for her hair.
   7 7 -8 -8 8 8 9 -9
Through the night, my heart was ach-ing,
  -6 -6 -7 -7 7 7 8 -8
Just be-fore, the dawn was break-ing,
7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7
I peeked in and on her bed
 6 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
In gay pro-fu-sion lay-ing there,
7 8 -8 -6 -7 -8 7 6
I saw rib-bons, scar-let rib-bons,
 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 6 6
Scar-let rib-bons for her hair.
 7 7 -8 -8 8 8 9 -9
If I live to be a hun-dred,
-6 -6 -7 -7 7 7 8
I will nev-er know from where,
 -8 6 7 8 -8 -5 -7 -8 7 6
Came.-Those love-ly, scar-let, scar-let rib-bons,
 -6 7 -7 -5 -6 -7 7
Scar-let rib-bons for her hair.
