[V1]
. -5  -5< -6. 6   7  -6..
 Dort auf Gol-ga-tha stand
. -6   -6  7.  -6< -7  7..
 einst ein alt rau-hes Kreuz,
.  7    7  -7.   7   -6  -5< -6  -5< -5... ..
 stets ein Sinn-bild von Lei-den und Weh;
. -5  -5< -6. 6   7  -6..
 doch ich lie-be das Kreuz,
. -6   -6   7.   -6<  -7  7..
 denn dort hing einst der Herr,
. 7  7  -7.  7  -6  -9< -9   8 -7<... ..
 und in ihm ich das Got-tes-lamm seh.

[C]
. -7   -7<  8.   8   8   8  -7< -7 -7<... ..
 Schät-zen werd ich das alt’rau-he Kreuz,
.-7< -7  7.  7  7   -7<  -7   7  -6... ..
 bis ich Je-sum er-blick auf dem Thron.
.-6  -7<  -9. -9   -9   -9 -9< -9  7... ..
 Ich will hal-ten mich fest an das Kreuz,
. -9< -9< -9.   8 -7< -6  -7 8 -7<... ..
 einst er-halt ich da-für ei-ne Kron.

[V2]
 Dieses alt rauhe Kreuz,
 von der Welt so verhöhnt,
 zieht mich wunderbar mächtiglich an;
 hat doch dort Gottes Lamm,
 das vom Thron zu uns kam,
 für uns Sünder Genüge getan.

[V3]
 Diesem alt rauhen Kreuz
 bleib auf immer ich treu,
 trage williglich Schande und Hohn.
 Einstens ruft er mich heim,
 wo ich ewig darf schaun
 Seine Herrlichkeit vor Gottes Thron.
