Ballad Of Billy The Kid

  6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -7 6 -6 7
From a town known as Wheel-ing West Vir-gin-ia
  6 -6 -7 -8 8 -8 -7 -6 6 -6
rode a boy with a six-gun in his hand,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8
and his dar-ing life of crime
 -7 -6 6 -6 7 8 -8 7
made him a leg-end in his time
 -7 6 6 5 -4 5 6 6
east and west of the Ri-o-Grande.

  6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8 -7 6 -6 7
Well, he start-ed with a bank in Col-o-rad-o,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8 -7 -6 6 -6
in the pock-et of his vest a Colt he hid,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 8 -7 6 -6 7 8 -8 7
and his age and his size took the tel-er by sur-prise
-7 6 6 5 -4 -4 5 6 6
and the word spread of Bil-ly the Kid.

  6 6 7 8 8 -8 8 -8
Well he nev-er tra-veled hea-vy,
-7 -8 8 -8 -8 8 -7
yes he al-ways rode a-lone,
 -7 =8 8 8 8 -8 8 -8 8 -8 -8
and he soon put man-y old-er guns to shame.
  6 6 7 8 8 -8 8 -8
Well he nev-er had a sweet-heart,
 -7 =8 8 -8 -8 8 -8
and he nev-er had a home,
 -7 -8 8 8 8 -8 8 -8 -9 8 -8 -8
but the cow-boys and the ranch-ers knew his name.

 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8 -8 -8 -7 -6 6 -6 7
Well he robbed his way from U-tah to O- kla- ho-ma
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8 -7 -6 6 -6
and the law just could-n't seem to track him down,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8
and it served his leg-end well,
-6 6 -6 7 8 -8 7 7 -7
for the folks they love to tell 'bout
 6 6 5 -4 -4 -4 6 6
when Bil-ly the Kid was in town.

-7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8 -7 6 -6 7
One cold day a pos-se cap-tured Bil-ly,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8 -7 -6 6 -6
and the judge said string 'im up for what he did,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8
and the cow-boys and their kin
-7 6 -6 7 8 -8 7
like the sea came pour-in' in
-7 -6 6 6 6 5 -4 -4 5 6 6
to watch the hang-in' of Bil-ly the Kid.

6 6 7 8 8 -8 8 -8
Well he nev-er tra-veled hea-vy,
-7 -8 8 -8 -8 8 -7
yes he al-ways rode a-lone,
 -7 =8 8 8 8 -8 8 -8 8 -8 -8
and he soon put man-y old-er guns to shame.
  6 6 7 8 8 -8 8 -8
Well he nev-er had a sweet-heart,
 -7 -8 8 -8 -8 8 -8
tho' he fi-n'lly found a home
-7 -8 8 8 8 -8 8 -8 -9 8 -8 -8
un-der-neath the boot-hill grave that bears his name.

6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 8 -8 -7 6 -6 7
From a town known as Oy-ster Bay, Long Is-land,
  6 6 -7 -8 -8 8 -7 -6 6 -6
rode a boy with a six-pack in his hand,
 6 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8
and his dar-ing life of crime
-7 -6 6 -6 7 8 7 7
made him a leg-end in his time
-7 -6 6 6 6 5 -4 -4 5 6
east and west of the Ri-o-Grande.
