 John Wesley Harding
 -6 -6 6 -5 -4 4
Was a friend to the poor,
 -5 -6 7 7 -8 7 -6 -5 -4 6
He trav'led with a gun in ev'ry hand.
 -8 7 7 -6 -8 7 7
 All along this countryside,
 -6 6 6 -4 5 5 -4 4
He opened a many a door,
  7 7 7 7 -8 7
 But he was never known
 -6 -7 -6 -5 -4 -5
 To hurt an honest man.

   7 7 7 7 -6 7 -8
 'Twas down in Chaynee County,
 -6 6 -6 5 -4 4
 A time they talk about,
  7 7 7 7 7 -8 7
With his lady by his side
 -6 -5 -4 6
 He took a stand.
 -8 -8 7 7 -6 -8 7 7
 And soon the situation there
 -6 6 6 5 -4 4
 Was all but straightened out,
  7 7 7 7 -8 7
 For he was always known
 -6 -7 -6 -5 -4 -5
 To lend a helping hand.

  7 7 7 -6 7 -8 -8
 All across the telegraph
 -6 6 -6 5 -4 4
 His name it did resound,
 -5 -6 7 7 -8 7 -6
But no charge held against him
  -5 -4 6
 Could they prove.
 -8 -8 -8 7 7 -6 -8 7
And there was no man around-
  7 -6 6 6 5 -4 4
Who could track or chain him down,
 7 7 7 -8 7
 He was never known
 -6 -7 -6 -5 -4 -5
 To make a foolish move.
