Mark Peterson - Highest Place
The lyrics and structure of this song are really amazing! The lyrics tightly follow Phillipians 2:5 to 11 (all except the 2nd two lines of the second verse) and it's got a pretty decent melody.
verse 1.
6 -5 5 6 -7 7 -7 6 -6
Jesus Christ in very nature God,
-6 -6 -6 -6 6 5 6 -5 5 -4
did not grasp hold of His place on the throne,
6 -5 5 6 -7 7 -8 7 -7 -6
but took on the nature of a servant,
-6 -7 7 -7 6 6 -5 5 6
made Himself nothing, born as a man.
verse 2.
Being found in appearance of a man,
He was obedient to death on a cross.
There He died, God the Son our maker,
A humble servant, showing the way.
chorus.
7 -8 8 8 8 8 8 -8 8 -9 9 8
Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place
-8 7 7 7 7 -7-7 6 -7-6
And gave Him the Name above all names.
7 -8 8 8 8 8 8 7 -8 8 -9 9
So that at the name of Jesus every knee should
8
bow
-8 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 -8 8 -8
In Heaven and on earth and under the earth.
-8 7 -7 7 7 7 6 9-9 8 -8 7
And every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord,
6 6 -6 7 7 7 -7 -8 7
To the glory of God the Father.
