Song: | One of Leonard's more melodious songs and as there are only 7 notes using 5 holes I put it for beginners although with 4 long verses and a chorus it's a test of breath control and stamina. I have introduced rest notation eg. ^ as one per beat rest ^^^^ would be four beats. Also time sig. eg. 4/4 ~~~~ means extend the note 6 6~~~ //4/4 ^^^ Suz-anne-/ ~~ 6 6 -6 6 6~~~~ 6 6 6 //: --takes you/down- to her-/-place near the/ -6 6 ^ 6 6 -6 -6 -6~~~ -6 -7 -6 6 -5 riv-er ^ you can/hear the boats- go/by-- you can/ -6 -6 -6 -6 -7~~~~ -6 -6 -6 spend the night be-side-/- her and you/ -6 6 6 6 6 -6 6 ^ 6 6~~~~ know- that she's half/cra-zy ^ but thats-/ ~~ 6 6 6 6 -6 6 6 6 - why you want to/be there and she/ 6 6 6 6 7~~~~ 7 6 6 6 7~~ feeds you tea and or-/-ang-es that come all-/ ~ 7 7 7 -8 7 -7 -6 -the way from/Chi-na and just/ ^ 6 6 6 6 -6 6 ^ 6 6 2nd v.^ when you mean to/tell her ^ that you/ -6 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 ^ -6 -6 have no love to/give her ^ then she/ -6 6 6 6 -6 6 ^ 6 6 gets you on her/wave-length ^ and she/ -6 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 -6 -6 -6~~ lets the riv-er/an-swer that you've al-/ ~ 6 6 6 -6 6 ^^/^^^^/ -ways been her/lov-er ^^/^^^^/ 6 6 2/4 and you/ -7 -7 -7 -7 Chorus 4/4 want to tra-vel/ 7 -7 ^ -7 -7 7 7 7 7 -8 7 -7 -6 with her ^ and you/want to tra-vel/blind- and you 6 6 6 -6~~~~~ 6 ^ 6 6 /know she will trust-/-you ^ for you've/ 6 -5 6 -5 6~~~~-5 4 -5 touched her per-fect bod/---y with your/ 6 ^^^/^^^^^^/ ^^^ 6 6/4 mind ^^^/^^^^^^/4/4 start 3rd ^^^ and :// ^^ 6 6 6 start of 4th v. /4/4 ^^ Now Suz-anne:// 6 ^^^/^^^^^^/^^^^^^/ 4th v. end /6/4 mind ^^^/^^^^^^/^^^^^^/ v.3 and Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water, and he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower and when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him, he said "all men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them" but he himself was broken, long before the sky would open forsaken, almost human, he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone to chorus:- v.4 Now Suzanne takes your hand, and she leads you to the river. She is wearing rags and feathers from Salvation army counters and the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbour and she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers there are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning, they are leaning out for love, they will lean that way for ever while Suzanne holds the mirror to chorus for end.
