Things are too quiet here in the forums and no one is posting songs, come on folks I can't post till my name makes it to the bottom of the list and I'm not getting any younger. So, lets try a new game my first movie is the Blues Brother 2000 (?) with blues traveler.

Once Upon a Time in the West with good ol' Charles Bronson.

Since things are going slowly right now, why not just post everything you've got and get it out of your system? =)

PS, the first (and better by a million) Blues Brothers film had several harp scenes as well, and even referred to it as a "harp."

Well, ,,, I was being a little tongue-in-cheek (comes from all that tongue blocking) If I was someone who only posted once in a while it would be different, I just don't want to be too pushy.

You're getting me at it Walt, how about Walter Brennan playing harmonica backing to Ricky Nelson's guitar and Dean Martin's vocals on "My Rifle Pony and Me" in the 1960 film of Rio Bravo

The film "Free Willy" the young boy plays harmonica to Willy.

The 2008 movie "Australia", where the little boy, Nulluh (played by Brandon Walters), practices and learns to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from his favorite movie "The Wizard of Oz".

Just seen this one on T.V "Memphis Belle" 1990. One of the aircrew played by Neil Guintoli plays a little on a Chromatic before they leave on their last mission.

He later complains bitterly when the harp gets shot to pieces but thereby saving himself from a bullit.

That's really easy to play on a G harp. I've got a Blues Harp with a screw eye on one end that I wear around my neck at Cowboy Action Shoots. Every once in awhile when I'm next shooter and "Next Shooter to the line" is called I'll play it.

Can anyone play a harp the way CB was holding his? My wrist wont bend that far.

For the next movie, there's Robin William's character, "Maxwell 'Wizard' Wallace", in "August Rush", who's often seen walking away in the dark of the evening while playing his harmonica.

I guess that's the "Sandwich Style" of holding? It is uncomfortable. I can do it, but I'd rather not.

I believe it is the way a classically trained old school player would have learned. I seem to remember Larry Adler holding it that way, with a lot of finger wiggling of course.

Don't I wish I could tab it the way Adler plays it. I just watched the scene on you tube and was quite moved. Look it up if you have the time

Yup, that's it. I've tried holding that way, but like you said, it is uncomfortable. Of course there are some distractions in that picture. My eyes tended to want to wander over to the right and stay there. Claudia is reasonably close to attractive!

I remember a Tom Selleck movie where a young cowboy is up on a ridge watching for the bad guys and playing "Red River Valley" on a harp. Tom rides up and says something along the line of "Right purty tune your playing". I wondered if that was period correct, since I don't know the date Red River Valley was written. I think RRV is a more modern tune, but not sure. I can't remember the name of the movie, I think it was a made for TV movie.


But I also wonder why John Wayne is carrying a Model '92 Winchester in 1870. I can't remember the name of the movie, I think it was a made for TV movie.

Daaayum! Really? All those had someone on screen with a harp in their mouth? (Not just the sound of the harp in the soundtrack?)

I have no idea. I've only seen a few of those movies, and they've all been a long time ago.

I watched "The Outlaw Josey Wales" again, when Josey first walks into the saloon in Santa Rio, one of the patrons is playing a harmonica. And it's not on the above list.

I saw The Josey Wales film but don't recall anyone with a harmonica but something must have clicked in my subconcious as I drew this pic some years ago.
