I am working on several new features, but I am running out of things on the to do list. Does anyone have any suggest on what they would like to see on the site, or what they would like changed?

There should be a possibilty to step backwards too the "search tabs" page when you're looking at a tab. It's a bit annoying having to make a new search.

I could work on something like that. It shouldn't be hard to do.

Another thing, we should be able to leave comments on the tabs, like they do on www.ultimate-guitar.com for example.

This has been talked about several times, and the general consensus was that with the messaging system people could message the author of the tabs. A lot of people didn’t like the idea that others could leave messages so we nixed this idea in the past. If people want me to add these feature now I will.

Now another thing popped up in my mind. smiling smiley

It should be notified in the titles of the tabs if the tabs is showing actual harmonica play or if it's just tabs to sing along the song with the harmonica. I myself am only interested in tabs with actual harmonica play so I find it annoying having to browse through all these non-harmonica tabs. It would be great to be able to mark "only actual harmonica tabs" in the "search tabs" function.

The problem we have found with adding things of that sort is posters just don't fill out fields so when you run a search you will not find everything even if the tab posted meets that requirement. I can set it up but I believe this is another feature which people posting will just ignore like the genre feature.

Hey, I actually use the genre feature! Don't take it off, please.

In am not taking it off, it just doesn't get used by posters that often.

Maybe you're right but I don't think so. I think people who post the harmonica parts will be happy to check a "actual harmonica parts" field.

I have another thing you could fix if you want to. I requested a tab for the Supertramp song called "School", then I get a mail that the song is already posted but it is not. The only song I find when I search for "school" is "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard - Solo" by Paul Simon wich of course isn't the tab I'm looking for.

Edit: I also think we should be able to rate tabs.

What Pipan seems to be saying is that he wants to see the harmonica solos, or the harmonica parts of songs, without having to look at songs that people have tabed for harmonica.

We already have the "solo" Genre option don't we? That should take care of his needs.

I remembered that we setup the harmonica solo genre just for that purpose but it is rarely used. As for the request page it is done that way by design. The tab ratings has been something we have talked about in the past. It is on my list to do.

That's right.

I didn't notice that, but I don't think it should be there because "solo" isn't a genre of music.

At the time everyone decided that we should set it up that way, because it was easy to do and the logic was that people were not really going to use it anyway so why spend a lot of time setting up something.

Here is the old post about it:

It may not be a genre of music, but it suits the need.

I don't fully agree with that. It is easy to miss the "solo" option in the genres because it is pretty unexpected that it would be there, the "solo" option doesn't really belong there after all. I for example didn't notice the "solo" option when I posted my first (and so far only) tab here.

Another reason I don't agree with you is that this ruins the genre feature if you choose "solo" 'cause then tou can't tell what genre it is.

Edit: Wouldn't it be great if ther was a requirement to choose the genre option in order to post tabs? Because then nobody would ignore it.

Some songs fit into more than one genre. One has to make a choice.

Is it Rock or Folk?

Is it Rock or Blues?

Where does this one fit anyway?

What is the genre of a Frank Sinatra song?

Technically the genre is required but people just don't change it. Most of the fields used don't get filled out by people. The reason I don't make them required is because I don't want to make it so someone doesn't post a tab just because they don't want to bother filling out everything.

How about making it possible to write what genre it is?

But isn't choosing a genre a very small thing to ask? I mean if you can write down a whole tab you can tell what genre it is too. I don't think anybody will stop posting tabs because of this.

The writting in of a genre won't work with the site coding and it will also lead to thousands of genres which could really be the same. Spelling errors and different names for the genre would be common. With the current system all people have to do is pull down the box and select the genre and they don't want to even bother doing that. Most people cut and paste the tab into the box then just click save.
