There was an idea give on showing on map where all of our members are from around the world. What do you all think about doing it? All I would show is the town everyone was from. I would like to do it on Google Earth and on Google Maps. For those out there who don't know Google Earth it is a really cool gobal map program which is free [earth.google.com].


So what do you all think?

I've messed around on Google Earth a little bit. It was pretty cool!

Interesting, How would we use it?

I would create a file which would display where everyone is, all it would just be for fun to see how far reaching this site is.

If it's not too much work, i would like it.

I am doing some research, but it appears like if I have everyone enter their home town and country I should be able to put a file together automatically.

I have now added a field for location in everyone's user profile. If you fill that out you will be added to the google earth map. I have the entire project almost done, it turnned out to be very easy.

Ok I have it setup, now it just needs testing. So if you have Google Earth, go to the following link and you should see everyone on the site who has their location filled in on the world. You will see it as Username, User's Text, their location and their photo (if there is a posted one). [www.harptabs.com]

Another note I have set it up so that it will automatically update the file every ten minutes on your computer. So as new people enter in their locations, you will see them. I think it looks pretty cool so far. I hope everyone fills in their location field so we can see.

Wow, that's an amazing program...I can look at the house I used to live in in Australia when I was four....Bizarre.

I love Google Earth I spend hours using it to find completely useless things.

I setup a new page on the site for just this item.

I added my location. I hope more people do it. This could be interesting.

I am hoping to see everyone do it. It would be so cool to be able to see how far this site reaches across the world.

Unfortunately due to admin constraints, im not allowed to dl google earth onto the uni computers. I have however tried it at home and you can actually see my flat (whcih isnt my home btw) and also the library where im typing this post as well.

Hey Nick, Its really cool, but like PuffpastryHangman, I can't download Google Earth at work, So I did it at home, great idea, shows how far the site has reached.

yes it is just an incredible program. I would love to see even just half the members add in their location.

I agree Nick, Last night I was on Google Earth and its really cool to see where everybody is. So calling all Members, update your profile so we can see where everybody is from.
