Damn banners and other ads

the uk.matchservice ad does a full screen ad. I had to add it to my popup blocker. I know you're trying to reduce costs by having ads but that was was just annoying.

Flashing ads are nasty and distracting, but webmaster has to pay the bills.

Flashing banners don't bother me. I block many images but they must follow these rules.

If it's a simple ad banner (not flash, although those are getting annoying lately)
If it's not an actual sponsor ad (I'll keep those out of respect for the site owner). Sponsor ads are usually paid for display not paid for by clicks.
If it's originating from an off site

This popup was none of those. Somewhere in the ad banners, a popup was loaded that filled the entire screen, not just the browser window. It was as bad as hitting a porn or warez site. If I don't want to see the ad as a simple small popup, making it full screen is going to want me to see it even less.

It only triggered when I clicked on the "10 Largest Contributors" link on the main page. My popup blocker now has it under control.

I did not get that one, could you have Spyware/Adware on your machine?

Highly unlikely. I run my own domain servers and my machines are checked regularly.

I just re-ran ad-aware because of some new updates and the system is clean. There's a posibility I clicked on a banner that was invisible because the image was blocked but it happened twice.

Ad-aware doesn't get all of the spyware and adware that is out there (however out of everything out there it definately picks up the most). Most likely it was a flash applet which did that. I have not seen any ads like that and all ads are provided by an outside service. The ads on the top of the page are pay per view but I will remove them since they are doing that.

I have switched to a different type of banner ad from the same company. If these do the same thing let me know and I will drop the company.

I have ad-aware, so not all the flashing banner ad's get me... think I've only had one pop up in all the time I've been coming here & I didn't let it bother me. Juno is my ISP and I'm a little miffed at them because they've recently allowed pop-up ads to hit me when I sign on. (sigh))) But, I guess it's the way of the Internet world.
