Sudden rash of new members. Automatically generated ?

I've just noticed that there are a number of new "members" which are remarkable in that (a) the date of joining is 2012-01-22 00:00:00 - that is at exactly midnight and (b) that their User Name is exactly the same as their First Name - even the case is the same.

I took a look at it, I don't think it is anything going on. I believe the dates may have been messed up when I was working on fixing something. The logs don't show anything for the users at that time.
