Re: Reading tabs vs memorizing

Some things I have picked out by ear. But, 99% of what I play I have memorized from tabs. I have them on 3 X 5 cards. Once you have played a number through 50 times or so it sticks. Portions of a song that are tricky with wide jumps between holes that need attention. You have to just play that area by itself over and over. Then jump to the beginning and 9 times out of 10 you'll breeze right through the difficult area. Stick to tunes you know. I don't think about numbers, holes, draw or blow. I think your mind just takes you along. I like simple melodic tunes, country, gospel and old classic rock. Things like..The Old Lamplighter, Four Walls, 7 Spanish Angels. Don't ask me to play blues riffs or do any tongue blocking because I can't.
