...improvised riffs...

I'm having fun with short riffs that I make up myself.

They are inspired simply by the moment and/or various events...

...winning a card game of "Spades" on lunch break (or when I lose- it's funny, and shows I'm a good sport)...

...fishing on Orange Lake with the guys...

...follow-up on good, or bad jokes or comebacks...

...they're REALLY fun when they provoke laughter and response from others...

If you haven't tried improvising a riff, but like to have fun, you may be missing out on one of life's many simple pleasures.

Start by practicing short riffs when you are alone- imagine someone telling a joke or a funny story at a family gathering, at work, or after church, then envision how the riff would sound, and practice it on your favorite harmonica.

After you have actually done this on different occasions, it is easier to be more spontaneous, and create a riff on-the-spot.

The excitement of pulling out the harmonica in a group of people in an improv setting can be QUITE a rush!

You can inflect emotion with your harp; joy, sadness, sympathy or express a "gotcha" after a funny (not too cutting, though, a fight could damage your harp) one-liner.

...works for me, and lots of fun...
