I find that while spending much time with Harptabs excellent website I am doing a lot of playing while sitting in front of my PC in the music room. The other day I played in our living room while in a standing positition what a revelation I am a much better player than I thought, having more arm room, can open my lungs better, and feel I have much more control over the instrument. I highly recommend one should play in a standing position rather than being seated, makes a whole lot of difference.
Mostly in the car a la Adam Gussow or Tom Walbank. Not driving of course, but it's a convenient place to go where I don't have to force others to listen to it, won't wake my son, and it has a CD player for jam tracks!
Our stairwell going down to the basement is all dry walled and sounds almost like I'm amplified. I do a lot of exercises- long draws and blows, chugging and bends- while driving. I just got a Shaker Madcat mic and a Smokey Amp so I'll be spending more time in the basement. I can't leave it alone or put it down. My friend Reed is learning the guitar and calls it "musical masterbation". I feel like I 12 again and just hitting puberty.
Another place I have played in is our newly tiled out toilet/bathroom good acoustics but again in the seated position. In my opening message I was advocating the point of standing to play, standing in the toilet for a man would pose some p problems. lol
Right now I'm at the Hollywood Casino in Toledo and since I'm not a gambler (Kati likes to play once in a while) and I usually can find a place to "play". In the warm weather I sit outside on a bench by the valet parking. Too cold today so I played in the space between the inner and outer doors by the valet. WOW! It's a natural echo chamber. I never, ever sounded that good. Only been playing ten months. As soon as I finish this beer and! hit the can, man, l'm heading back out there. Ciao
